Modern Diesels are prone to clogged Diesel Particulate filters, especially those that aren’t often used or don’t do long journeys on a frequent basis,  We offer an “on the car” cleaning service for Cars, Vans and Light Commercials cleaning out the filter and restoring the vehicles performance and clearing the emissions lights from the dash which is crucial if you vehicle is going to pass its MOT

    What is a DPF?

A DPF is a diesel particulate filter fitted to all diesel vehicles since 2017 (and some earlier vehicles) that helps reduce emmissions of soot helping the environment

NO, it is illegal and can leave you with a fine of up to £2000 and is a definate fail at the next MOT

Most vehicles can be done in between 1 and 3 hours (depending on how much cleaning your DPF requires)

Your vehicle will often continue to run often with  reduced power (in a limp home mode) while showing the DPF fault, driving it like this will further clog the filter and make the cleaning harder, cost more or even damage the filter so getting it fixed promptly can save you serious money.

    • Stop/Start Driving
    • Infrequent / Short Journeys
    • Urban Driving
    • Faulty engine parts like injectors or turbo

Many things can cause your DPF to get blocked the most common being infrequent use or mainly urban or stop start driving, taking the vehicle for a sustained drive at 60mph for at least 15 minutes every few weeks will enable the vehicle to perform an automatic clean of the filter.

As part of the cleaning process we will scan your cars  internal computer for any fault codes that are stored or active before starting the DPF cleaning procedure, if any faults are found we advise that these are rectified at the same time as cleaning the DPF as leaving these faults will often cause the DPF to block again very quickly or damage your engine.

Yes, part of the cleaning procedure is a pre and post clean fault code check to ensure there are no issues and this will reset the fault light for the DPF

As the DPF can be clogged by the manner of driving and many other components of the vehicle we cannot warranty the DPF clean, we will however offer advice at the time of cleaning as to how to keep the filter from blocking while driving and advise you of any faults shown in the engine ECU or from visual inspection that may cause the filter to block and what you should to to rectify them.

If your DPF keeps getting blocked one or both of the following things is likely

    • You do lots of stop/start driving or labour the engine in a high gear
      • Take the vehicle for a drive at a sustained 50>60mph for approx 15 minutes every few weeks to enable the onboard systems of the vehicle to perorm a self clean of the DPF
    • Your engine has a fault with a component like an injector or a turbo
      • Frequent servicing of your vehicle can reduce wear and highlight any issues that may cause DPF blockage, your garage should be able to advise you and recify these faults defore they damage your engine or block your DPF

Exhaust systems (of which the DPF is part of) are very prone to corrosion this can mean that bolts, fixings and sensors attached to it often corrode excessively (even on relatively new vehicles) and can cause the bolts to snap or sensors to be damaged on removal to facilitate the cleaning, whilst taking every reasonable care occasionally these do break if this happens it may incur some additional cost to fix / replace.
